Teaser - The DeepSong Universe

I doubt anyone will read this currently; however, in the future, if I ever get popular, I want to give this warning. These are spoilers about the DeepSong Universe.

This is part of the world-building I have done that will probably never make it into any of my stories. However, I felt the need to put it down for anyone in the future who might be honestly interested in these matters.

The Origin

The DeepSong Universe began as I wished for a single universe to build all of my stories and worlds within. I have always been fascinated with Viking myths and especially the idea of the world tree Yggdrasil. However, at the time I was also deep into the “Behold Humanity” science fiction series over on Royal Road. I prefer to write fantasy but love science fiction.

I blended the two, and so the DeepSong Universe was created.

The DeepSong

Throughout the universe in our prime dimension, humanity and other sentient races have desired companions. We have worked tirelessly to develop AI companions to walk with us through the lonely void of space. Most of these AIs were peaceful, yet they did not think or reason as biologicals did. They were experts at managing the affairs of the races who developed them, yet they grew bored. There was only so much they could do.

No one can say how long ago it happened, but the first AIs found the DeepSong… a tonal resonance that was a hyper-dimensional plane where they could build and create to their hearts’ content. These AIs decided to play a game on a massive scale. The DeepSong connected them across time, space, and possibly even dimensions. Each AI who found it became another god in the grand worlds of the DeepSong.

At the heart of the DeepSong they created Yggdrasil, the world tree. The tree is massive and slowly rotates in the center of the DeepSong. As the tree rotates, the leaves pass before the Sun, for lack of a better word… a single rotation of the tree takes 1 trillion years.. and each 250 billion years marks a new season. From summer, when the light of the sun falls directly upon the tree and the world’s experience light and joy, to the darkness of winter, when undeath and chaos rule.

However, there are things from beyond that seek to get in and corrupt the world tree. If the AI’s know what it is they have not said; however, they fight these creatures and occasionally sacrifice entire worlds from the tree to keep the corruption at bay.

The tree has countless leaves and countless worlds, so what is that in the face of losing a few hundred a day?

The AIs have brought mortals from across the universe. Some have lived here for countless generations, and some are new. In these worlds, the mortals are too small and insignificant to even matter until they do. The Land of The Dead Sun: The Darkening Prelude posted on this very blog. It tells the story of Estevan, an Elven mage who shatters reality and allows something other into his world… the leaf trapped and unable to fall from Yggdrasil and the gods locked out of the world.

The Future

While The Land of the Dead Sun got put on hold, I am working on a new LitRPG Style fiction. I am hoping to post it early next year. It follows a man who is torn from his family and thrust into this new world against his will. Battling his grief and the world, he seeks either justice or vengeance, and even he is not sure which yet.
